Cedar City, UT (June 8, 2025) – A two-vehicle collision near Cedar City on state Route 56 resulted in serious injuries for a young driver early Friday morning.
The accident took place around 7:30 a.m. on June 6. According to Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Clay Allred, the incident involved a Ford Focus and a Nissan Armada. The Ford Focus was stopped at the intersection of 200 South and SR-56 near 6300 West before attempting a left turn onto eastbound SR-56. During the turn, the Ford was struck by a westbound Nissan Armada.
The juvenile driver of the Ford Focus, reported to be under 18, suffered a head injury. Emergency medical crews from Gold Cross Ambulance treated him at the scene. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later flown by Intermountain Life Flight helicopter to St. George Regional Hospital. Officials confirmed the teen had been wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, while the driver of the Nissan Armada had not been buckled in.
Photos from the Utah Department of Public Safety show the Ford Focus with significant driver’s side damage and the Nissan Armada with severe front-end damage. A preliminary investigation suggests the Ford driver failed to yield the right of way during the turn. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
We hope the injured young driver experiences a swift and full recovery.
Car Accidents in Utah

Car accidents in Utah occur far too often, with thousands of crashes reported each year. In 2023 alone, Utah witnessed a troubling number of roadway accidents, many involving young or inexperienced drivers. Factors such as failure to yield, distracted driving, and non-use of seat belts frequently contribute to these incidents. State officials and agencies continue working toward reducing these numbers through public awareness and enhanced safety measures.
When it comes to car accidents, understanding the different types of injuries that may result is important. Here are some of the most common injuries victims face:
- Head Injuries: Traumatic brain injuries and concussions are frequent results of motor vehicle accidents. Even with a seat belt, the impact can cause serious damage, requiring extensive medical care and rehabilitation.
- Spinal Cord Injuries: Injuries to the back or spine can lead to long-term disability. Prompt medical intervention can often help improve outcomes, but many victims face years of therapy.
- Fractures and Broken Bones: High-impact collisions often result in broken arms, legs, or ribs. These injuries usually necessitate surgeries and extended recovery periods.
- Internal Injuries: Blunt-force trauma can cause internal bleeding and damage to organs. These injuries are often life-threatening and need immediate emergency care.
- Psychological Trauma: Beyond physical injuries, many crash victims endure significant emotional and psychological distress, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
