Summit County, UT (June 29, 2025) – On Friday evening, June 27, a serious accident took place on Interstate 80 in Summit County, leaving two people badly injured.

According to Utah Highway Patrol, the crash happened near mile marker 191 when a Chevy Pacifica traveling eastbound toward Evanston drifted from its lane and struck the back of a semi-truck. The impact caused the driver to lose control, sending the vehicle off the right side of the roadway and into an embankment, where it overturned.

Both occupants of the Pacifica had to be extricated by emergency crews. One victim was airlifted to a nearby hospital, while the other was transported by ambulance for further treatment. Investigators continue to look into what led up to the collision and urge drivers to always wear seatbelts and stay attentive on the road.

We send our best wishes to those injured and hope for their full and swift recovery.

Each year, drivers across Utah face thousands of serious collisions that lead to life-changing injuries or fatalities. According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, crashes involving commercial trucks can be especially severe due to the size and weight of these vehicles. Here in Utah, motorists should remain vigilant, especially when sharing highways with large trucks and traveling at high speeds.

Understanding how truck accidents happen can help drivers stay safer. Here are some factors to remember:

  • Blind Spots: Large trucks have bigger blind spots than passenger vehicles. When drivers linger in these areas, truck drivers may not see them while changing lanes or turning. Staying visible and avoiding blind spots can prevent serious crashes.
  • Longer Stopping Distances: Semi trucks take much longer to stop than smaller vehicles. Cutting off a truck or braking suddenly in front of one can lead to devastating rear-end collisions. Giving trucks extra space is a simple step that saves lives.
  • Driver Fatigue: Commercial drivers often spend long hours on the road. Fatigue slows reaction times and increases the risk of drifting into other lanes. Watch for trucks that are weaving or drifting and maintain a safe distance.
  • Improper Passing: Passing a truck on the right or merging too closely can result in side-swipe crashes. Always pass trucks safely on the left side where visibility is better and avoid lingering alongside large trailers.
