Millcreek, UT (July 26, 2025) – A chaotic hit-and-run crash in Millcreek on Monday morning, July 21, left multiple vehicles damaged and a young child injured. The incident took place near the intersection of Highland Drive and Richmond Street, where a 2005 Chevy Impala slammed into stopped traffic, including a 2025 Toyota Tundra occupied by Salt Lake City resident Dallas Bailey and his 4-year-old son.

According to witnesses, the driver of the Impala immediately exited the wrecked vehicle after the crash, gathered belongings, and fled the scene on a single-wheeled hoverboard. Bailey, who was dazed from the crash, said he rushed from his totaled truck to confront the driver—only to be threatened. “He said he was going to kill me,” Bailey told reporters, shaken by the experience.

Bailey’s young son was hurt during the crash and received attention at the scene. Witnesses also claim the suspect pointed a firearm at a bystander before fleeing. Although Salt Lake Police responded within minutes, Bailey expressed frustration that officers chose to search the suspect’s vehicle instead of pursuing the armed individual.

We wish Bailey’s son and all others impacted a smooth and complete recovery.

Here in Utah, crashes involving hit-and-run drivers continue to present a major public safety concern. According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, hit-and-run accidents often result in delayed emergency care and complicated insurance claims. The state’s mix of urban and suburban roads creates scenarios where fleeing drivers can disappear quickly. This makes witness cooperation and thorough documentation essential. Victims are often left to piece together the aftermath on their own.

The aftermath of a crash like this can feel overwhelming, especially for families. Here are a few things to know about hit-and-run incidents in Utah:

  • Uninsured or Unknown Drivers: When a fleeing driver cannot be identified, victims may need to file claims through their own uninsured motorist coverage. Unfortunately, this can result in higher premiums or denied claims.
  • Threatening Behavior Increases Severity: When a driver brandishes a weapon or threatens others after a crash, the incident becomes more than a civil issue—it’s a criminal case. This impacts how police respond and how insurance companies handle claims.
  • Legal Recourse May Be Limited Without an Arrest: If the driver cannot be located or charged, pursuing compensation becomes more complicated. Even when the vehicle is identified, proving liability is difficult without cooperation.
  • Children Injured in Crashes: When minors are involved, additional medical attention and emotional support are often needed. Children may not immediately display symptoms of injury, so follow-up care is crucial.
  • Vehicle Ownership Disputes: Crashes involving recently sold vehicles can lead to confusion about liability. If a vehicle is still registered to a former owner, tracing insurance and legal responsibility can drag out the process.
