Car Accidents in Utah
Across Utah, vehicle crashes continue to pose a significant risk to public safety. From major highways to busy city roads, these incidents can occur in any location at any time. In 2023, Utah saw tens of thousands of car accidents, many resulting in injuries or long-term consequences for those involved. While safety initiatives and public awareness campaigns are active throughout the state, the personal toll of each crash is deeply felt by the families affected.
One major issue that arises after an accident is understanding insurance policies and what they actually cover. Here’s a closer look at this often-confusing area:
- Personal Injury Protection (PIP) Coverage: Utah’s no-fault insurance system includes PIP, which provides immediate coverage for medical expenses, lost wages, and household services regardless of who caused the crash. However, navigating PIP claims can be confusing without help.
- Liability Coverage Limits: Many drivers are unaware of the coverage limits on their policies. If the at-fault driver’s policy is insufficient to cover damages, victims may need to pursue underinsured motorist benefits or file a civil suit.
- Rental Car and Property Damage Provisions: After a crash, drivers often need temporary transportation. Whether a rental car is covered can vary widely by policy. Additionally, some insurers push back on full reimbursement for vehicle repairs or losses.
- Dealing with Insurance Adjusters: Adjusters often try to minimize claim payouts. Their job is to protect the insurance company, not the victim. Legal guidance can help you communicate effectively and avoid settling for less than you deserve.
- Out-of-Pocket Medical Costs: Even with insurance, victims may face significant medical bills due to deductibles, copays, or non-covered treatments. Legal support can help ensure full recovery of those expenses.
