Best Biking Trails in Utah

Utah is known for outdoor activities. From Logan to St. George, you can try everything from skiing to swimming and hiking to snowmobiling. And with even more advancements in the park systems, outdoor activities get better every year. Utah has made great efforts in creating new environments and amenities to improve the outdoor activity experience. This includes all the numerous bike trails throughout Utah. We have a list of the top eight biking trails in Utah.

1. Jordan River Parkway

This paved trail extends from Utah Lake to North Salt Lake, for a length of 45 miles. The trail starts near Payson and ends right before Ogden. It has flat terrain and a river view for most of the trail.

It is perfect for families and novices, as well as sight seeing for wetlands and mountains. Some tree roots cause bumps in the road, but the wide paths should make it easy to avoid.

2. Murdock Canal Trail

This is a 17 mile paved trail extending from Orem to Lehi. The elevation changes are minimal, as the trail follows what is now an enclosed canal. There are also restrooms every view miles. With views of Mount Timpanogos, Orem Cemetery, and connections to the Provo River Parkway, it is perfect for a casual or extended ride. The trail is wide and has painted divides, but it is important to be watchful of others on the trail.

3. Bennie Creek Cutoff Downhill

A downhill, 4 mile mountain bike trail, this is perfect for an experienced rider. It’s a wild downhill ride, with rough terrain and a switchback drop. It is common for riders to shuttle to the top because of the strenuous climb up there. They also recommend taking a guide or map because of the interconnecting trails that can get confusing. If you are going to ride this trail, you should be skilled in off-road biking and wear protective gear in case of falls.

4. Bonneville Shoreline Trail

This is a single and double track trail, reaching over 100 miles. The trail is segmented, so most people just go on the trail for 10-20 miles at a time. Every section varies on its difficulty, so any skill level can enjoy the trail. The trail is scenic for those who love a good view. A safety note is that some parts have loose roots and rocks, so research before you go out.

5. Corner Canyon Trails

In Draper, you will find this single track mountain biking trail. The trails are over 30 miles of interconnected routes. There are smooth uphills, descents, and gorgeous views. There are easier parts for beginners and then more advanced parts. Hikers are often on the trail as well, so it is important to watch for others and wear safety gear.

6. Mueller Park Trail

This 13 mile trail on Bountiful is a beautiful forested mountain biking ride. With 2,000 ft gained in elevation, the trail showcases the beauties of the Wasatch mountain range. There are some descents, and it makes it perfect for intermediate riders. With some of the ascents, you should make sure to be careful of your pace, so you don’t get injured.

7. Ogden River Parkway

This paved bike road is 9.6 miles one way. It runs all the way through Ogden and passes by the river. You can also pass by waterfalls, botanical gardens, and access to parks and wildlife sightings. The roadway is flat, accessible and scenic for casual bikers. Make sure that as you’re biking in the summer, you bring water with you.

8. Skyline Trail

A biking trail in Ogden, divided into a few sections, but is about 15-30 miles. These sections range from intermediate to advanced for all riders. The ride is along the Ogden Valley Ridge, with views of the Pineview Reservoir and Wasatch Range. This means there are descents and climbs with gorgeous views. The whole trail is best for experienced riders who want a challenge.

As you are biking on these trails, make sure that you are being safe and aware, especially of those on the trails with you.
