With Summer coming quickly, families and friends, children and parents all want to get out. There are a lot of fun things to do in Utah during the summer. You can enjoy of the many summer activities, hiking, or spend time at a park. One thing you might not think about, but is very popular in Utah, is boating. With many lakes and reservoirs to visit, you can go boating in several new places. We have a list of the best bodies of water to go boating at in Utah. Lake Powbell

In the southern part of Utah at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, is Lake Powell. It is a man-made reservoir and one of the most popular for Utah residents. Around the lake are several marina and rental locations. Not only is it good for boating, but with several types of fish, and a water temperature between 70-80 degrees fahrenheit, you can enjoy fishing and swimming. 

Flaming Gorge Reservoir

In the Northeastern part of Utah, near Wyoming, is Flaming Gorge Reservoir. There are two marinas nearby, the Cedar Springs and Lucerne Valley. There are also a lot of fish in this reservoir, and its average temperature is 60-68 degrees. With over 42,000 acres, you can also go hiking, camping, backpacking, and snowmobiling. 

Bear Lake

Bear Lake straddles the border of Utah and Idaho, and is one of the most popular destinations. With popular places to eat and shop, as well as swimming and boating, there are endless things for you to do at Bear Lake. Since the elevation is higher, you do get burnt a lot easier. There are Marinas and rentals nearby, so you can boat and use motorized water vehicles. Since there are fish in the lake, you can go fishing as well. Despite the hot temperatures, that water is usually 55-65 degrees. 

Jordanelle Reservoir

Close by Salt Lake City and Park City, which means that there are so many things for you to do. They have the Jordanelle Rental and Marina, where you can rent boats, jet skis, flydive, kayaks, and SUPs. Since it is between mountain ranges and forests, the water can get fairly cold. If you don’t want to be on the water, then you can go camping and hiking or enjoy nature. 

Deer Creek Reservoir

Located in the heart of Provo and Heber City, Deer Creek is a beautiful reservoir tucked around in the mountains and hills. Not only can you rent boats to go fishing, boarding, or sporting, you can also go to the Rainbow Bay Aqua Park. You can spend the day with friends and family on the water, while also being near some of the best hiking spots. 

Willard Bay Reservoir

In the Ogden valley, a part of the Great Salt Lake, you will find the Willard Bay Reservoir. You can get to the reservoir from the North or South Marina, where you can fish or boat. The temperature of the water is usually 39 degrees, so you can also camp around the area. 

Utah Lake

Utah Lake is in the Provo-Orem Area, but you can also get to it through American Fork and Saratoga Springs. You can get to the lake from the Lindon Marina, American Fork Marina, Saratoga Spring Marina, and rent some kayaks, jet skis, and paddle boards. Around these areas, you can also have picnics near the camp grounds. Utah Lake does have some harmful algae blooms in the water. The state of Utah recommends that you don’t go swimming and be careful of fish that you catch, but non-water contact events are encouraged. 

Yuba Lake

In the middle of Utah is the Yuba Lake, where you can go fishing, enjoy some motorsports, and visit the beaches where you can camp. There are a few locations where you can rent jet skis, and you can also go fishing. 

 

If you are going to go out to one of these bodies of water, you need to make sure that you get a boating license and fishing license. As you are in the water, you should be careful of others in the water. If you are boating, be careful of other boats, paddle boarders, and anyone swimming.
