Carbon County, UT (May 19, 2025) – A fatal crash involving three vehicles unfolded along U.S. Highway 6 during a Sunday afternoon thunderstorm, taking one life and injuring another.

On May 18, emergency personnel were dispatched around 2 p.m. to milepost 259 of U.S. Highway 6, approximately 15 miles southeast of Price. The Utah Highway Patrol confirmed that weather conditions played a major role in the crash.

Investigators said a Tesla traveling westbound lost control due to heavy rain and slick pavement. The vehicle spun into oncoming traffic and was struck by a camping trailer being towed by a pickup truck. Moments later, a GMC Yukon SUV traveling eastbound collided with the Tesla’s driver side.

The Tesla’s driver died at the scene. Their identity has not yet been released. The Yukon driver suffered minor injuries, while the driver of the pickup truck was unharmed. First responders closed off the highway temporarily while medics assisted victims and cleared the scene. The Utah Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause and events leading up to the incident.

We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.

Utah experiences thousands of motor vehicle crashes every year, many of which are caused by weather conditions or driver error. According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, more than 61,000 crashes occurred statewide in a recent year, with over 25,000 people injured. Rain, snow, and other severe weather increase the risk of losing control, especially at high speeds or on winding roads. Understanding how certain crash situations impact victims helps raise awareness and promote better preparedness. Here are common types of injuries suffered in car crashes:

  • Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBIs): TBIs often result from head impacts during a crash. Even with seat belts and airbags, forceful collisions can lead to concussions or more severe trauma. Symptoms may include dizziness, confusion, memory loss, or changes in mood or behavior. These injuries can have long-term implications on cognition and daily functioning.
  • Whiplash and Neck Injuries: A sudden stop or impact can jerk the head back and forth, straining neck muscles and ligaments. Whiplash symptoms can take hours or days to appear and may include stiffness, pain, and headaches. Treatment may involve physical therapy or pain management.
  • Back and Spinal Injuries: Back injuries range from herniated discs to spinal fractures. Even minor crashes can aggravate pre-existing conditions. These injuries often lead to prolonged discomfort and may require rehabilitation or surgery.
  • Fractures and Broken Bones: The impact of a crash can cause broken arms, legs, ribs, or hips. These injuries are common when vehicles crumple or airbags deploy. Recovery time varies, and in some cases, permanent damage can result.
  • Soft Tissue Injuries: Bruising, sprains, and strains often go unnoticed initially. These injuries can lead to persistent pain and limited movement. Prompt medical evaluation is critical to ensure proper healing.
