Cedar City, UT (June 14, 2025) – A man lost his life Thursday afternoon, June 12, after being pinned underneath a manufactured home during its installation in a Cedar City housing community. The tragic incident occurred just after 3 p.m. near 800 West and 1200 North, drawing a swift response from police, fire crews, and medical personnel.

According to Cedar City Police Cpl. Aaron Condie, multiple workers were setting the home in place when, for reasons not yet known, it shifted and fell, trapping one of the workers beneath it. Officers at the scene used machinery to lift the home and free the man, immediately beginning CPR. Emergency medical technicians from Gold Cross Ambulance arrived shortly thereafter and continued lifesaving efforts.

The critically injured worker was transported to Cedar City Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Police did not release his identity in consideration of the family’s privacy. Two other workers were beneath the structure at the time. One suffered minor injuries, while the third was reported to be unresponsive at the scene and was also hospitalized.

Our deepest condolences go out to the victim’s loved ones and coworkers.

Workplace Accidents in Utah

Workplace accidents in Utah remain a serious issue, particularly in construction and labor-intensive jobs. The Utah Department of Public Safety and related state agencies track numerous injuries each year from industrial, installation, and transportation incidents. These accidents often result in significant injuries or loss of life. For more on safety guidelines and reporting, visit the Utah Department of Public Safety.

The aftermath of a fatal workplace accident is difficult to endure. Here are some essential considerations for families and survivors:

  • Survivor Benefits and Compensation: Families may be entitled to benefits through workers’ compensation, covering funeral expenses and loss of income. Filing for these benefits promptly can help reduce financial strain.
  • Wrongful Death Claims: If the accident was caused by negligence or unsafe work conditions, surviving family members might pursue a wrongful death claim. This can help secure compensation for emotional suffering, loss of companionship, and financial support.
  • Occupational Safety Investigations: Workplace accidents often lead to investigations by OSHA or local safety authorities. These can reveal violations or hazards that contributed to the tragedy.
  • Emotional Support and Counseling: After a workplace fatality, mental health care for family members and coworkers is essential. Grief counseling and therapy services can provide vital emotional support during this time.
