Crescent Junction, UT – Truck Driver Killed in I-70 Semi-Truck Crash

Crescent Junction, UT - Truck Driver Killed in I-70 Semi-Truck Crash

Crescent Junction, UT (July 10, 2025) – A fatal collision involving two semi-trucks claimed the life of one truck driver on Sunday night, July 6, near Crescent Junction.

According to the Utah Department of Transportation, the tragic accident happened around 8:15 p.m. on Interstate 70 near milepost 181. Authorities say the driver of a 2024 Freightliner exited the highway at a scenic overlook and then attempted to re-enter I-70 eastbound by cutting across the restricted gore area between the highway and the ramp. This illegal maneuver led to a devastating crash when a 2015 Freightliner, also hauling a trailer, slammed into the back of the 2024 Freightliner’s trailer.

The impact was so severe that the driver of the 2015 Freightliner was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials reported that the trailer hauling blueberries was destroyed while the front end of the older semi-truck sustained catastrophic damage. The driver and a passenger inside the 2024 Freightliner were not hurt. The crash is under investigation as crews work to determine any contributing factors to this heartbreaking loss.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the driver who lost their life in this tragic accident.

Truck Accidents in Utah

Crescent Junction, UT - Truck Driver Killed in I-70 Semi-Truck CrashUtah’s highways see thousands of commercial truck trips each week, and with that comes an increased risk of serious crashes. According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, large truck accidents account for a significant portion of fatal collisions statewide each year. These wrecks often result in catastrophic injuries or loss of life due to the size and weight of commercial vehicles.
Learning about common causes of truck accidents can help everyone stay safer on the roads:

  • Illegal Maneuvers: Improper lane changes, U-turns, and crossing restricted areas can lead to severe crashes. Truck drivers and passenger vehicle operators alike must follow all traffic laws and signage. Failure to do so can cause devastating results, as large vehicles require more space and time to stop.
  • Driver Fatigue: Long hours behind the wheel can make truck drivers susceptible to drowsy driving. Falling asleep or zoning out on the road can have deadly outcomes. Federal regulations limit driving hours, but fatigue can still play a role in many crashes.
  • Improper Loading: Unbalanced or unsecured cargo can shift during transit, making trucks harder to control or more likely to roll over. Routine checks and proper loading techniques are critical for safety.
  • Mechanical Failures: Brake failures, blown tires, or other mechanical issues can be disastrous, especially at highway speeds. Routine inspections and timely maintenance help prevent unexpected breakdowns that put everyone at risk.
