Farmington, UT (March 7, 2025) — A six-vehicle collision during the Thursday morning commute led to significant delays on southbound Interstate 15 in Farmington.
According to Lt. Cameron Roden of the Utah Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on March 6 in a construction zone amid rainy weather and standing water. Traffic had slowed when a flatbed tow truck rear-ended a Toyota Corolla and a Jeep Compass. The chain reaction continued as a Dodge Ram struck the tow truck, followed by a box truck crashing into the Ram. A semi-truck then collided with the box truck, completing the pileup.
Emergency responders arrived to assess injuries and assist those involved. Three people sustained injuries and were transported to area hospitals for further treatment. Fortunately, none of the injuries were considered life-threatening. Authorities believe that speed and following too closely for the conditions contributed to the crash. The Utah Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
Our thoughts are with those injured, and we hope for their full and rapid recovery.
Multi-Vehicle Accidents in Utah

Utah sees thousands of traffic accidents annually, with many occurring on highways like I-15. The Utah Department of Public Safety reports that distracted driving, speeding, and following too closely contribute to a significant portion of crashes in the state. Wet or icy conditions further increase the risk of collisions, making it critical for drivers to adjust their speed and maintain safe distances in hazardous conditions.
Drivers must remain aware of the potential dangers on the road. Here are some common factors that lead to multi-vehicle crashes:
- Weather Conditions: Rain, snow, and ice can reduce visibility and road traction, increasing stopping distances and the likelihood of crashes. Drivers should slow down and allow extra space when roads are wet or icy.
- Tailgating: Following too closely limits reaction time. If the vehicle ahead stops suddenly, a rear-end crash is more likely. Maintaining a safe following distance is crucial, especially in heavy traffic.
- Construction Zones: Reduced lanes, sudden merges, and shifting traffic patterns make construction zones particularly dangerous. Paying close attention to signage and slowing down can help prevent crashes.
- Speeding: Excessive speed reduces reaction time and increases the severity of crashes. Adhering to posted speed limits and adjusting for road conditions can prevent many accidents.
- Commercial Vehicle Involvement: Large trucks require longer stopping distances. When they are involved in a crash, the impact can be severe. Ensuring proper spacing around commercial vehicles can minimize risks.
