Kaysville, UT (March 20, 2025) — A tree-cutting accident in Kaysville claimed the life of a 49-year-old man after he suffered a severe head injury while working at a residential property.
The tragic incident occurred on the morning of March 19 at approximately 9:30 a.m. when Santos Baudilio Lopez Perez was cutting down a tree at 134 East Shadowbrook Lane. While he was in the tree, a section of it broke off and struck him in the head, rendering him unconscious. Due to the impact, Perez remained suspended approximately 30 feet in the air in his harness. A neighbor who witnessed the accident immediately called 911 for assistance.
Emergency crews from Kaysville, Layton, and Farmington responded swiftly to the call. When they arrived, they found Perez unresponsive. Rope rescue technicians quickly set up a system to safely lower him to the ground. Once on solid ground, first responders performed CPR and were able to revive him. He was then airlifted to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Perez succumbed to his injuries late Wednesday, March 19, as confirmed by the Kaysville Police Department.
