Pedestrian Accidents in Utah

Pedestrian accidents remain a serious concern across Utah, particularly near schools and busy intersections. According to the Utah Department of Transportation, pedestrian fatalities have increased in recent years, with many incidents involving crosswalks and marked pedestrian zones.
Understanding the risks and causes of pedestrian accidents can help improve safety for both drivers and pedestrians. Some of the most common contributing factors include:
- Failure to Yield at Crosswalks: Drivers who do not stop for pedestrians in marked crosswalks put lives at risk, especially near schools.
- Poor Visibility: Early morning and late evening hours, as well as weather conditions, can make it difficult for drivers to see pedestrians in crosswalks.
- Speeding in School Zones: Exceeding speed limits in areas with heavy foot traffic increases the risk of serious collisions.
- Distracted Driving: Using a phone or engaging in other distractions reduces a driver’s reaction time, making it harder to stop in time for pedestrians.
Families affected by pedestrian accidents often face overwhelming grief and financial burdens. If your loved one was injured or lost in a pedestrian crash, speaking with a Kearns wrongful death attorney can help you understand your rights and legal options.
