Car Accidents in Utah

Car crashes remain a leading cause of injury in Utah. With over 61,000 reported accidents in 2022, Utah drivers are regularly exposed to high-risk situations, especially on interstates like I-15. Many people are unsure of what steps to take after a crash. Here are a few common post-accident actions that are critical to your well-being and legal outcome:

  • Seek Immediate Medical Attention: Even if your injuries appear minor, symptoms may worsen in the hours or days after the crash. Getting a medical evaluation documents your condition and creates a record that supports any insurance or legal claim. This step also ensures hidden injuries, like internal trauma or concussions, aren’t overlooked.
  • Report the Crash to Authorities: A police report is a crucial piece of evidence. It provides an objective account of the scene, the parties involved, and any contributing factors like road conditions or signs of impairment. This documentation is helpful when working with insurance or filing a legal claim.
  • Document Everything: Photos, witness information, vehicle damage, and personal notes all help tell the story of what happened. Preserve anything that might be useful—insurance companies and legal teams will rely on your evidence to build a strong case.
  • Avoid Quick Settlement Offers: Insurance companies may offer early settlements that don’t reflect the true value of your injury. These offers often come before the full impact of an injury is known. Never accept a payout without understanding what future treatment or lost wages might cost you.
  • Contact an Attorney as Soon as Possible: A knowledgeable lawyer can explain your rights and take over communication with insurers so you can focus on healing. Legal support helps ensure you aren’t taken advantage of during this vulnerable time.
