Car Accidents in Utah
In 2023, Utah saw over 61,000 motor vehicle accidents, many of which resulted in injuries. Roadways like West Center Street are frequently traveled and can become the site of sudden and unexpected collisions. For those involved, even a seemingly minor crash can disrupt life in serious ways.
One issue many victims encounter after an accident is dealing with property damage. Here are several challenges people face when trying to recover after their vehicle is damaged in a crash:
- Total Loss Determinations: Insurance companies sometimes declare vehicles a total loss, even if damage appears repairable. Victims may receive only a portion of what their vehicle was worth—often less than what is needed to purchase a comparable replacement.
- Repair Delays: Shops may take weeks to order parts or complete repairs, especially if the vehicle is foreign or older. During this time, victims often rely on rentals or alternate transportation, creating added expenses and stress.
- Out-of-Pocket Costs: Even with insurance, deductibles must be met before repairs begin. Additional costs—like towing, storage, and rental car upgrades—can quickly add up. These expenses often aren’t reimbursed unless clearly documented.
- Disputes Over Value: Insurers may undervalue a vehicle based on generic metrics or outdated pricing. Without supporting evidence like maintenance records or recent upgrades, policyholders may be forced to accept less than what their car is truly worth.
