South Jordan, UT (July 11, 2025) – A tragic accident claimed the life of an 18-year-old motorcyclist in South Jordan on July 9. According to reports, the crash occurred around 7:27 p.m. near the intersection of 11400 South and Temple Drive. Authorities say that two to three motorcycles were heading east on 11400 South when a vehicle made a southbound left turn onto Temple Drive, striking one of the riders.
Emergency responders from the South Valley Crash Team, which includes officers from South Jordan, Riverton, and Herriman Police Departments, arrived quickly to manage the scene. The motorcyclist was rushed to Intermountain Medical Center but tragically passed away due to his injuries. Another motorcyclist reportedly laid his bike down to avoid the collision and was reported stable. The vehicle’s driver, a KSL employee, was unharmed.
At this time, South Jordan Police Officer Shaun Becker said it remains unclear who was at fault, though speed may have contributed to the incident. The investigation is ongoing as police review evidence and speak with witnesses about the events that unfolded near 1300 West and 11400 South.
We hope those impacted by this heartbreaking loss find comfort and healing during this incredibly difficult time. Our deepest condolences go out to them.
Car Accidents in Utah

Motor vehicle collisions are all too common in Utah, leading to thousands of injuries and fatalities each year. According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, contributing factors such as distracted driving, failure to yield, and speeding play significant roles in many serious crashes. Here in Utah, understanding these risks and staying alert on the road can help reduce the likelihood of tragic accidents that devastate families.
To raise awareness, here are some common causes of motorcycle accidents in Utah:
-
Left-Turn Accidents: These incidents occur frequently when drivers misjudge a motorcycle’s speed or fail to see them while turning left. Such crashes often lead to severe injuries or fatalities for riders who lack the protection of an enclosed vehicle.
-
Speeding: Speeding remains one of the top causes of motorcycle crashes. Excessive speed reduces a driver’s reaction time and makes it harder to avoid unexpected hazards, increasing the risk of life-altering injuries.
-
Failure to Yield: Drivers failing to yield the right of way at intersections is a frequent factor in motorcycle crashes. Motorcyclists are easily overlooked, especially when other drivers are not fully attentive.
-
Distracted Driving: Using a phone, eating, or adjusting controls while driving can lead to split-second mistakes that put motorcyclists at tremendous risk. A distracted driver can change a rider’s life forever.
