Car Accidents in Utah

Each year, thousands of people suffer injuries in traffic accidents across Utah. With over 18,000 injury-related crashes reported in 2023, road safety continues to be a serious concern. Many of these accidents result in medical expenses, rehabilitation needs, and financial hardships for victims.
Several common mistakes lead to crashes, including:
- Tailgating: Following too closely behind another vehicle drastically reduces a driver’s reaction time, leaving little room to brake or maneuver if traffic slows suddenly. This behavior significantly increases the risk of rear-end collisions, which are one of the most common types of accidents, especially during stop-and-go traffic or on busy highways.
- Unsafe Lane Changes: Changing lanes without signaling or properly checking blind spots can cause serious sideswipe accidents. This is particularly dangerous on highways, where vehicles are traveling at high speeds, or on crowded city streets, where drivers and cyclists often share limited space. Safe lane changes require clear communication with other drivers and careful observation of surrounding vehicles.
- Driving Too Fast for Conditions: Even if a driver is technically within the posted speed limit, weather and road conditions can make speeding incredibly unsafe. Wet roads, icy patches, poor visibility, or heavy traffic can all turn speeding into a serious hazard, increasing the likelihood of losing control or being unable to stop in time to avoid a collision.
- Ignoring Pedestrians & Cyclists: Many accidents happen when drivers fail to yield to pedestrians at crosswalks or overlook cyclists sharing the road. These vulnerable road users are at a much higher risk of injury in collisions, making it essential for drivers to remain vigilant, especially in residential areas, near schools, and at intersections where pedestrian and cyclist traffic is common.
