Car Accidents in Utah
With thousands of crashes happening each year, Utah remains a state where drivers must remain constantly alert. The Utah Department of Public Safety reported over 27,000 injury-related crashes in 2022. Many occur at intersections where visibility issues and right-of-way misunderstandings lead to serious incidents. Learn more about statewide crash data at the Utah Department of Public Safety.
Crashes at intersections often involve unique factors that complicate the aftermath. Here’s what drivers and victims should know:
- Failure to Yield: Many intersection crashes happen when drivers fail to yield properly. This can be due to inattention, speeding, or misjudging the speed of oncoming vehicles.
- T-Bone Collisions: Side-impact crashes are common at intersections and often result in severe injuries, especially for those on the struck side of the vehicle.
- Signal Misunderstandings: Left turns at green lights, poorly timed signals, and malfunctioning lights contribute to confusion that can cause accidents.
- Pedestrian Risk: Intersections are shared spaces with crosswalks. Drivers must remain alert for pedestrians crossing legally.
- Multiple Insurance Claims: When more than one vehicle is involved, multiple insurers may need to be contacted, increasing the complexity of the claim process.
