South Jordan, UT - Motorcyclist Killed After Crash on Redwood Rd

South Jordan, UT (July 31, 2025) – A fatal motorcycle crash unfolded Tuesday evening, July 29, in South Jordan, leaving a 31-year-old man dead after a collision with an SUV.

Just after 6 p.m., the motorcyclist was heading north along Redwood Road when an SUV attempted a left-hand turn into the parking lot of a Smith’s grocery store near South Jordan Parkway. The motorcycle struck the side of the SUV during the turn.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene and transported the rider to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Authorities confirmed the man had been wearing a helmet, though investigators are working to determine if it was fastened properly. The SUV driver was unharmed and is cooperating with authorities. The incident remains under investigation by South Jordan Police Department.

We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.

Fatal Accidents in Utah

South Jordan, UT - Motorcyclist Killed After Crash on Redwood RdMotor vehicle accidents in Utah remain a leading cause of serious injury and loss of life. According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, thousands of crashes are reported each year, with many resulting from excessive speed, distracted driving, or failure to yield. Here in Utah, many crashes occur in intersections or while vehicles are turning. Understanding the risks can help promote safer driving and decision-making on the roads.

Below are some common causes of motorcycle accidents that often go overlooked:

  • Left-Hand Turns by Other Vehicles: Motorcycles are often struck by drivers turning left across their path. These incidents are commonly due to misjudged speed or failure to see the motorcyclist at all.
  • Visibility Challenges: Motorcycles are smaller than other vehicles, making them harder to see. When a car or SUV driver fails to double-check blind spots, the results can be fatal.
  • Speeding: Higher speeds reduce the time drivers and motorcyclists have to react. In this case, speed is believed to have contributed to the crash.
  • Poor Helmet Usage: Wearing a helmet greatly improves survival chances, but it must be fastened properly. Loose or unfastened helmets can fail during impact.
  • Parking Lot Intersections: Entrances and exits to busy lots like grocery stores often lead to misjudgments and quick turns. Drivers may not anticipate oncoming traffic correctly.
