Car Accidents in Utah
Thousands of people in Utah find themselves dealing with the aftermath of car crashes every year. According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, driver distractions, speeding, and unpredictable weather are some of the top reasons these accidents occur. Knowing what to do in the moments after a collision can make a big difference in protecting your health and your legal rights.
It’s also helpful to understand how vehicle safety features can help prevent injuries:
- Airbags: Airbags deploy within milliseconds during a collision and are designed to protect your head and chest from striking hard surfaces. While they don’t prevent all injuries, they can significantly reduce the severity of trauma.
- Seat Belts: Seat belts remain one of the simplest yet most effective safety tools. They help keep you restrained and reduce the chance of being thrown from the vehicle during a crash.
- Anti-lock Braking Systems (ABS): ABS prevents the wheels from locking up during sudden braking, allowing drivers to maintain steering control. This can help avoid skidding and secondary impacts.
- Electronic Stability Control (ESC): ESC helps keep your car from spinning out during sharp turns or slippery conditions by automatically applying brakes to individual wheels. This feature is especially helpful in Utah’s winter weather.
- Backup Cameras and Sensors: These technologies help drivers avoid collisions while reversing by providing a clear view of blind spots. They are particularly useful in parking lots or driveways where pedestrians may be present.
