St. George, UT (April 17, 2025) – A teenage driver was injured in a two-vehicle crash on Tuesday afternoon, April 15, at the intersection of Bluff Street and 900 South in St. George. The crash occurred around 1:00 p.m. and has left the teen unable to finish the current high school girls’ golf season.

Authorities say the collision took place when a Toyota Highlander attempted to make a left-hand turn onto 900 South and was struck by a southbound blue Volkswagen sedan. Police cited the driver of the Toyota for failure to yield. The impact caused extensive damage, totaling both vehicles involved.

While the five occupants of the Toyota did not report any injuries, the teen driver of the Volkswagen sustained visible injuries. She was taken to a nearby hospital by private vehicle for treatment. According to family members, she suffered multiple lacerations on both arms, a broken pinky finger on her dominant hand, and a mild concussion. The arm injuries were reportedly caused by the deployment of the airbag during impact.

Doctors have recommended surgery to repair the broken finger, which is expected to result in a recovery period of four to six weeks. As a result, she will be sidelined for the rest of her athletic season.

We hope she experiences a smooth and full recovery.

Car Accidents in Utah

In Utah, thousands of accidents are reported annually, with more than 61,000 vehicle crashes occurring in 2023 alone. Over 17,000 of those resulted in injuries, many involving teens and young drivers. Intersections, especially those with high volumes of turning traffic, are common sites for failure-to-yield collisions like the one in this case.

Teen drivers face unique risks when involved in a car crash. Here are several key factors to consider following an accident involving a young motorist:

  • Limited Experience: Teens are still developing the instincts that come with time behind the wheel. High-stress situations, like navigating busy intersections, can result in increased crash risk.
  • Heightened Injury Risk: Younger bodies are more prone to injury during a crash. Even seemingly minor accidents can lead to lasting physical issues or require longer recovery times.
  • Impact on School and Sports: Injuries may interrupt school attendance, extracurricular activities, or competitive sports seasons, affecting not only academics but scholarship opportunities and social development.
  • Insurance and Liability Concerns: A crash involving a teen can trigger complications with insurance coverage and liability, especially if others are injured or property damage is extensive.
  • Emotional Recovery: Car accidents can be traumatic at any age, but teens may find it particularly difficult to cope with the aftermath. Anxiety, fear of driving, or changes in behavior may follow.

If you or a loved one was injured in a recent crash, contacting a compassionate St. George car accident attorney can be an important first step. An attorney can help navigate the insurance process, protect your rights, and pursue appropriate compensation for medical expenses, emotional distress, and more.
