St. George, UT – Three-Vehicle Crash at Red Hills Pkwy and Gateway Dr

St. George, Utah (March 18, 2025) – A three-vehicle collision occurred Monday morning, March 17, at the intersection of Red Hills Parkway and Gateway Drive after a driver failed to yield while making a left turn. The crash happened around 10:53 a.m. and resulted in two people being transported to the hospital.

According to St. George Police, an Audi was traveling south on Red Hills Parkway and attempted to turn left onto Gateway Drive at a yellow light. A truck heading north on Red Hills Parkway had a green light and continued through the intersection when the Audi turned in front of it. The two vehicles collided, and the impact caused the Audi to strike a blue Hyundai that was waiting to turn onto Red Hills Parkway.

A couple over the age of 65 occupied the Audi, and both were taken by Gold Cross ambulance to St. George Regional Hospital for treatment. Their injuries have not been specified. The Audi’s driver was cited for failing to yield while making a left turn.

We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.

Car Accidents in Utah

Utah experiences thousands of car accidents every year, many of which occur at intersections. Left-turn crashes are especially common, as drivers may misjudge oncoming traffic or fail to yield properly.

Some of the leading causes of intersection accidents include:

  • Failure to Yield: Turning left without ensuring the intersection is clear often leads to collisions. Drivers should always wait until it is safe to proceed.
  • Misjudging Oncoming Traffic: Estimating the speed and distance of approaching vehicles can be challenging, resulting in unsafe turns. Taking an extra moment to evaluate traffic can prevent crashes.
  • Distracted Driving: Looking at a phone, talking to passengers, or adjusting the radio can cause a driver to overlook oncoming traffic when making a turn. Staying focused is crucial.
  • Red Light Runners: Some drivers speed through yellow or red lights, leading to dangerous intersection crashes. Obeying traffic signals reduces accident risks.
  • Poor Visibility: Weather conditions, sun glare, or obstructions near intersections can make it harder for drivers to see other vehicles. Slowing down and being extra cautious can help avoid collisions.
