St. George, UT (July 26, 2025) – One of the busiest intersections in St. George was the scene of a two-car crash on Wednesday afternoon, July 23, after a southbound vehicle collided with a turning car at the intersection of River Road and Riverside Drive. The incident, captured on CollisionCam footage, occurred at 1:21 p.m. and prompted a response from police, firefighters, and emergency medical teams.
According to officers at the scene, the collision involved two white passenger vehicles. One vehicle, traveling south on River Road, struck the other as it turned left onto Riverside Drive. Both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles and sustained what appeared to be minor injuries. Nevertheless, both were transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
Witnesses reported seeing a flashing left-turn arrow at the time of the crash, though investigators have not issued citations. Crews from the Utah Department of Transportation’s Incident Management team removed one of the vehicles from the intersection using chains to drag it clear. By 2 p.m., the intersection had been reopened to normal traffic flow.
During the cleanup, a pickup truck driver attempted to bypass the blocked lanes by driving into oncoming traffic, causing a brief confrontation with officers before being redirected.
We hope both drivers recover quickly and fully from their injuries.
Car Accidents in Utah

Accidents at major intersections are not uncommon in Utah, especially in cities like St. George with high traffic volume. According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, a significant number of collisions occur during left turns at busy intersections. These types of crashes are often the result of unclear signals, misjudged timing, or driver impatience. Road safety officials continue to encourage defensive driving and caution, particularly during mid-day hours when traffic can surge unexpectedly.
For those affected by a crash, it’s important to understand how left-turn accidents unfold. Here are several key points to keep in mind:
- Flashing Yellow Arrows and Confusion: Many drivers misinterpret flashing yellow arrows, believing they offer the right-of-way. In reality, drivers must yield to oncoming traffic before turning left, and misunderstanding this can easily lead to serious crashes.
- Intersection Hotspots: Busy intersections like River Road and Riverside Drive see frequent congestion, which can lead to hurried decisions. Patience and full stops before proceeding are essential, especially when turning.
- Emergency Response Challenges: First responders work quickly to clear roads but need space and cooperation. Incidents like Wednesday’s show how dangerous it can be when frustrated drivers attempt to skirt traffic control measures.
- Delayed Medical Symptoms: Even when injuries appear minor, it’s common for pain or discomfort to set in hours later. Hospital evaluations are a smart precaution and may uncover hidden injuries such as soft tissue damage or concussions.
- Vehicle Removal and Road Safety: Clearing large or immobilized vehicles often requires chains or special equipment. Drivers should remain alert and patient during these processes to avoid worsening an already hazardous scene.
