Victims often face unexpected hospital bills, lost income, and long recoveries. Knowing how to handle the aftermath of a collision can help you protect your health, your family, and your rights.
To be prepared, keep these important tips in mind:
- Check for Injuries: Always check yourself and others for injuries immediately after a crash. Call 911 to get medical help on scene.
- Stay Put and Call Police: Never leave the scene. A police report helps protect you legally and is vital for any insurance or legal claim.
- Collect Evidence: Take photos of the vehicles, road conditions, any skid marks, and visible injuries. Get names and phone numbers from any witnesses.
- Exchange Information: Share contact and insurance details with the other driver(s) involved. Stay calm and avoid discussing fault at the scene.
- Consult an Attorney: A skilled lawyer can handle insurance adjusters and build your case for fair compensation so you can focus on recovery.
