Washington County, UT (August 4, 2025) A serious crash involving a pickup truck, a semi-truck and a recreational vehicle created a traffic stall on southbound Interstate 15 yesterday afternoon, August 3, just north of Leeds in southern Washington County. The collision occurred around midday and caused a major backup along the freeway.
According to official reports, two fully loaded semi-trailers collided in the right lanes of I‑15 SB. A nearby RV became stalled while trying to maneuver around the wreckage, compounding the traffic chaos. Highway patrol and rescue units arrived promptly at the scene to manage both the crash and resulting congestion.
A woman, who was traveling as a passenger in the pickup truck, had a broken arm and was taken to a nearby medical facility for further care. According to KUTV, neither driver requested further medical attention at the scene. Both trucks sustained heavy damage to their trailers and tractors, and highway crews worked for hours to safely remove the vehicles and clear debris.
Utah Highway Patrol troopers, supported by crews from Hurricane Valley Fire & Rescue, managed scene control and redirected motorists around the incident. As multiple lanes were blocked, delays reached several miles in both directions for a time while traffic was rerouted around the crash site.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation. Authorities are reviewing whether mechanical failure, driver error, or sudden braking in heavy traffic played a role. Vehicle logs, eyewitness accounts, and video surveillance from nearby cameras are being collected. The Utah Highway Patrol has not yet released a final accident report.
We send our best wishes to everyone impacted by this incident.
Interstate Crash on Utah
Collisions between large trucks on high-speed interstates like I‑15 can have wide-reaching effects, even when nobody is physically hurt. When heavy vehicles collide in fast-moving traffic zones, secondary crashes and congestion often follow, especially if stranded vehicles block shoulders or lanes.
Even accidents without casualties come with serious consequences. Cleanup operations can last hours, increasing risks of additional crashes and complicating traffic flow. This is especially risky near exits and merges, where drivers may attempt unsafe maneuvers.
While no one was seriously injured in the Leeds crash, those involved or nearby should remain vigilant for delayed medical symptoms or accident-related trauma.
