Wellington, UT (May 12, 2025) – A semi-truck hauling crude oil careened off the road early Monday morning, May 12, striking several parked vehicles and ultimately crashing into a home where an elderly couple and a child were inside.
According to Utah Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at approximately 6:20 a.m. along State Route 6 near mile marker 247 in Wellington. The commercial vehicle was traveling eastbound when it veered off the right side of the highway. The truck first struck six parked vehicles outside an auto repair shop before continuing through an intersection, crashing into a utility pole, fire hydrant, fences, and an open field.
The truck then slammed into an occupied home, where it struck an elderly man and woman who were inside. A 12-year-old boy who was asleep in the front room was miraculously unharmed. The crash left the home severely damaged.
Emergency crews responded immediately. The truck’s driver and passenger were taken to the hospital in what authorities described as “Bravo” and “Charlie” condition, indicating moderate to serious injuries. The adult male and female residents were flown by medical helicopter to a trauma facility due to the severity of their injuries. The child was also transported to the hospital for evaluation, although he did not appear to suffer physical injuries. Officials are still investigating the cause of the crash.
We hope all those injured in this horrific crash recover fully and quickly.
Truck Accidents in Utah

Truck accidents, particularly those involving commercial vehicles and residential areas, are among the most destructive collisions reported in Utah. According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, commercial vehicle crashes continue to rise, especially along major routes like SR-6 where high speeds and long hauls increase the likelihood of fatigue or mechanical failure.
Truck-related crashes often involve multiple victims and extensive property damage. Here’s what you should know:
- Severity of Impact: Semi trucks can weigh up to 80,000 pounds. When they strike homes, vehicles, or pedestrians, the results are catastrophic. Injuries are often severe or life-threatening, and property loss is extensive.
- Multiple Insurance Policies: Commercial vehicles are typically covered by layered insurance policies—some held by the driver, others by the company or third-party haulers. This makes legal claims complex.
- Crash Scene Investigation Is Key: Events like this require intensive investigation, including skid analysis, black box data retrieval, and vehicle inspections. These details help determine fault and liability.
- Medical Transport Costs Add Up Quickly: Helicopter transport, trauma care, and follow-up surgeries can result in overwhelming medical bills. Victims often require legal support to recover these expenses.
- Property Damage Recovery: When a home is struck, damage extends beyond walls. Structural integrity, water lines, and electrical systems can be affected. Insurance may not offer full replacement value without legal advocacy.
