West Jordan, UT (March 27, 2025) – Emergency crews rushed to the scene of a serious hit-and-run Tuesday night, March 25, after a motorcycle and an SUV collided in West Jordan.

According to Dirk Petersen with the West Jordan Police Department, the crash happened just after 8:30 p.m. along Redwood Road near Gardner Lane. A dark-colored SUV struck a motorcyclist before fleeing westbound on Gardner Lane. Witnesses say the rider was left lying in the road following the crash. First responders provided aid at the scene before transporting the injured motorcyclist to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

The SUV involved has not yet been located, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. Southbound Redwood Road was shut down between 8200 South and 8700 South for several hours while an accident reconstruction team worked the scene. The area saw significant delays as investigators processed the roadway for evidence and cleared debris.

As of now, law enforcement continues its search for the suspect vehicle. Those who may have seen the SUV or have dashcam footage from the area around the time of the crash are asked to contact the West Jordan Police Department.

We hope the motorcyclist injured in this crash recovers quickly.

Motorcycle Accidents in Utah

Motorcycle accidents in Utah present significant dangers due to the lack of physical protection for riders. In 2022, the Utah Department of Public Safety reported over 1,300 motorcycle crashes statewide, many resulting in serious or life-threatening injuries. Riders are more vulnerable to impacts, and crashes involving motorcycles often lead to hospitalizations or long-term recovery.

There are several common causes of motorcycle crashes in Utah that riders and drivers alike should be mindful of:

  • Left-turn accidents: Motorcycles are often struck by vehicles making left-hand turns. These occur when a car misjudges the speed or visibility of an oncoming rider. This type of accident is particularly dangerous due to the angle and force of impact.
  • Blind spot collisions: Drivers sometimes fail to see motorcycles due to their smaller size. Failing to check blind spots before changing lanes can result in severe crashes, especially on busy roads or highways.
  • Excessive speed: Speeding reduces reaction time for both drivers and riders. High-speed crashes increase the likelihood of fatal or severe injuries, especially for unprotected motorcyclists.
  • Distracted driving: Texting, eating, or using in-car systems can divert a driver’s attention. A momentary lapse in focus is all it takes to overlook a nearby motorcycle, leading to disastrous consequences.
  • Road conditions: Uneven pavement, potholes, or debris can be much more hazardous to motorcycles. Even small road imperfections can cause riders to lose control or be thrown from the bike.

If you or a loved one has been hurt in a crash, contacting a skilled West Jordan motorcycle accident attorney is vital. An attorney can help preserve evidence, work with investigators, and communicate with insurance companies while you focus on recovery. Timely legal representation is especially important in hit-and-run cases, where every second matters in tracking down the responsible driver.
