Woods Cross, UT (June 14, 2025) – One person was hurt following a helicopter crash at Skypark Airport in Woods Cross on Friday morning, June 13. According to police, the helicopter went down while exiting a hangar around 8:49 a.m.
The incident occurred as the pilot was maneuvering the aircraft out of the hangar. While attempting a turn to take flight, the main rotor struck the hangar door, causing the helicopter to flip over and crash onto its side. Emergency responders rushed to the scene and discovered the aircraft severely damaged. The pilot, whose identity has not been disclosed, sustained minor injuries and was treated on-site before being transported to a nearby hospital for additional care.
Photographs captured at the scene show the aircraft on its side, clearly demolished from the impact. While the identity of the helicopter’s owner remains unknown, authorities confirmed that the National Transportation Safety Board will be launching an investigation, although they will not be responding directly to the crash site.
We hope the injured person in this accident recovers quickly.
Helicopter Accidents in Utah

Helicopter accidents in Utah, though rare, do occur and often involve complex causes such as mechanical failures or operational errors. According to aviation safety data from the Utah Department of Public Safety, Utah reports several aviation incidents each year, many of which require thorough investigation by federal agencies. These incidents can result in a wide range of injuries and disruptions to both air and ground traffic.
Understanding what to expect following an aviation-related accident can be overwhelming. Here are some common causes of helicopter crashes:
-
Mechanical Malfunctions: Aircraft engines and components are intricate. Failures in rotor systems, fuel delivery, or navigational technology can quickly lead to loss of control. Regular maintenance and inspections are critical but sometimes even those aren’t enough to prevent sudden failures mid-flight.
-
Pilot Error: Human error remains a leading cause of aviation accidents. Misjudgments during takeoff or landing, miscommunication with ground crews, or poor decision-making in unexpected weather can all contribute to crashes.
-
Obstructions or Hazards: Objects like hangar doors, power lines, or other aircraft on the ground can pose immediate threats. In this case, the rotor’s contact with the hangar door was the direct cause of the helicopter’s flip and crash.
-
Training and Experience Gaps: Less experienced pilots or those unfamiliar with specific aircraft models may be at higher risk. Proper certification and regular training updates are essential to prevent mishandling.
