Salt Lake City, UT (June 20, 2025) – A major downtown intersection in Salt Lake City was shut down early Friday morning after a three-vehicle crash left one truck overturned and damaged a nearby TRAX utility pole. The accident occurred at the intersection of 400 South and 700 East, just north of Trolley Square.
Salt Lake City Police confirmed that the impact of the crash caused a truck to tip onto its side, separating the body of the vehicle from its frame. Two of the vehicles involved required tow trucks to be removed from the scene.
Emergency crews worked to stabilize the area and clear debris while traffic in all directions was blocked except for southbound lanes from 700 East. Southbound traffic was being diverted west onto 400 South. Officers remained on scene throughout the morning and aimed to fully reopen the intersection by 8:30 a.m. Additionally, the crash affected UTA Red Line tracks, though service was already suspended in the area for scheduled summer maintenance. UTA crews responded to repair a utility pole damaged during the crash.
We extend our thoughts to all involved and hope for a safe and complete recovery for anyone injured.
Car Accidents in Utah

Crashes involving multiple vehicles are a common sight across urban areas in Utah. According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, intersections are among the most frequent locations for serious collisions due to high traffic volumes and multiple points of conflict. In cities like Salt Lake City, drivers must remain especially cautious when approaching busy junctions.
After a crash, victims often have to deal with multiple challenges. Here’s what drivers should know about dealing with damaged property after an accident:
- Vehicles May Be Declared a Total Loss: If the cost to repair your car exceeds its value, the insurance company may issue a total loss settlement. It’s important to understand how that value is determined.
- Rental Coverage Is Often Limited: Most policies cover rental vehicles for a short window. Knowing the terms of your rental benefit helps avoid unexpected expenses while your car is repaired or replaced.
- Document Everything: Photos of the crash site, vehicle damage, and personal belongings inside the vehicle are critical for insurance claims and legal reviews.
- Aftermarket Additions May Not Be Covered: Items such as custom parts or electronics might require special documentation or additional policy endorsements to be reimbursed.
- Timely Action Prevents Delays: Reporting the accident promptly to insurers and scheduling inspections or appraisals early can speed up resolution and help you get back on the road sooner.
