Car Accidents in Utah
Utah highways, particularly busy routes like Interstate 15, see frequent crashes throughout the year. The Utah Department of Public Safety reports thousands of accidents annually on interstates, often caused by speeding, drowsy driving, or early morning low visibility. These conditions are especially common during weekend and early morning travel, putting commuters at increased risk of injury.
Recognizing signs and causes of certain injuries can be helpful after a crash. Here’s a breakdown of commonly reported soft tissue injuries:
- Whiplash: Whiplash is a neck injury caused by the rapid back-and-forth motion typical in rear-end collisions. Symptoms include stiffness, neck pain, and headaches. It may take hours or days to appear and can require physical therapy or rest for recovery.
- Strains and Sprains: Muscle strains or ligament sprains are frequent in car accidents. Victims may experience swelling, bruising, and limited mobility. These injuries are often underestimated but can have lasting effects without treatment.
- Back Muscle Injuries: Even if no bones are broken, soft tissues in the back can be torn or stretched due to impact. This can lead to chronic pain, spasms, or nerve impingement, sometimes requiring long-term care.
- Contusions and Deep Bruising: Seat belts and airbag deployment can cause significant bruising. While they often heal with time, deeper tissue bruises can be very painful and may indicate more serious internal damage.
- Tendon Damage: Injuries to tendons, particularly in the shoulders or knees, may go unnoticed at first but can limit movement and require orthopedic treatment or surgery depending on severity.
