Riverton E-Motorcycle Rider Killed in Crash

Early on Thursday morning, a 21-year-old man was killed in a crash. He was on an e-motorcycle and was hit by a driver in an SUV. The crash happened at the intersection between 1300 West and 12600 South in Riverton, UT. He was going south when he was hit by the SUV. The accident pushed the e-motorcyclists 186 feet, which makes the police speculate that high speeds were a factor in the crash. Although the investigation is still ongoing, investigators also believe that one of the drivers ran a red light. The victim of the accident has not been identified, but he was pronounced deceased.

Electric motorcycles have to follow the same laws as a regular motorcycle. This means that the motorcycle needs to be registered, and riders must wear helmets. Since electric motorcycles are classified as off-highway vehicles, it depends on the municipal area if they are allowed on the roads.

There are a few things that you should remember while you are riding an e-motorcycle.

Silent Operation

Electric vehicles are usually very quiet when they are driving. This means they are not as noticeable to drivers, pedestrians, and other cyclists. Since motorcycles and bikes are harder to see anyways, this increases their difficulty to spot on the road.

Acceleration and Handling

As with new electric vehicles, e-motorcycles have a lot of torque to them. When you start going on the bike, there is a rapid acceleration and sometimes loss of control. This is dangerous for cars on the road that don’t see you coming from behind. Before you take the e-motorcycle on the road, practice with it on safer roads so you understand how to drive it correctly.

Weight Distribution

Electric motorcycles have a heavier battery than regular motorcycles do. This means that their weight distribution and center of gravity are different from regular motorcycles. If you have been used to driving regular motorcycles and you’re switching to an e-motorcycle, you should do more practicing before you get on major roads.
