As the warm weather takes over Utah, everyone starts enjoying their summer activities. There’s even more games, sports, road trips, and even more. And throughout Utah, warm weather brings out the cyclists, especially motorcyclists. And that means that the rate of motorcycle accidents increases. We want everyone to stay as safe as they can at all times.
It is good to pay attention to the places that are dangerous while riding on motorcycles and be aware of where the most motorcycle accidents do occur.
The most accidents occur in urban places that are dense and full of traffic. Some of these places include:
State Street in Salt Lake County
Especially around 8600 South, as this is a very trafficked area. Many accidents happen while vehicles are making left hand turns. Many of the accidents that have happened have been fatal to those involved.
I-15
Since this freeway runs from the top to the bottom of the state and is one of the main routes to anywhere you want to go. Because of the number of vehicles and the speed they go, accidents happen almost daily. Most accidents occur from lane changes and high speeds.
State Route 20
Near mile marker 11, on this route, there are very sharp turns. These turns can be difficult for many riders, meaning accidents for single riders.
State Route 89 and State Route 30
With these roads located near regions that get more extreme weather, there are certain times they can be more dangerous.
When Do Accidents Happen?
Most motorcycle accidents happen during traffic rush hours, and during dim and low lighting times. This is because with so many cars on the road, it can be hard to see the motorcycles, and dim lighting always makes it difficult to spot objects on the road. Because motorcycles are smaller, they often are not visible in the dim light.
According to KSL.com, preliminary data suggests that 53 people died in motorcycle accidents in 2024. This is the highest fatality rate in 15 years.
To lower this rate in the coming years, we want everyone to be safe and careful. This is especially important for motorcyclists who are more susceptible to fatal accidents.
