On March 24th, 2025, Holly Murphy, 56, was at her friend’s house in Salt Lake City. While she was there, she was feeding her friend’s dog a donut, when he suddenly attacked her. She told KSL that when the dog attacked her she “felt him on my chin, and then I heard every single tooth and all the part of (my chin), I heard them all crush”.

She said she was not sure what was happening because she had a good relationship with the dog. Her jaw bone was broken at 16 places, and “it was the most painful thing she ever experienced.”

Ms. Murphy told KSL that since the attack, she is “terrified of going outside[…]terrified of going to the store[…]terrified of seeing people”. She said that her life has changed traumatically from the attack.

She was sent to the hospital and was in critical condition for about two weeks. Despite this attack, Ms. Murphy says that she does not want the dog to be put down and would rather tell all dog owners to train their dogs.

She also wanted to tell families with young children to watch their kids closely, and “don’t let them approach a dog they don’t know.”

Her daughter says that since her mom almost died, and this dog has attacked other people, she wants the dog to be put down.

The Salt Lake County Animal Services are investigating this dog and attack, but he does not have reports of this dog attacking other people. “The dog is currently in quarantine on a 30-day hold as it determines if this dog is deemed to be an dangerous animal and should be put down”.
